The Boys’ Grade School Jordan Retro 5 is children’s sizing for the retro edition of Michael Jordan’s fifth signature basketball shoe. The Air Jordan 5 is without a doubt one of the most iconic Air Jordan ever designed, ranking high on the list of favorite models for many Jordan collectors around the world. The Jordan 5 originally released in 1990, and was the third Air Jordan designed by legendary Nike designer Tinker Hatfield. For the Jordan 5’s look, Hatfield took inspiration from World War II fighter planes, which often featured a paint job of a shark bearing its teeth. The shark tooth motif can be seen loosely interpreted on the midsole of the shoe, while the entire silhouette almost seems to be in forward-motion and ready to strike. Other signature details of the Jordan 5 include the clear mesh midfoot panels, an asymmetrical collar for strategic ankle support, and a reflective tongue (for most styles) that was intended to catch the light of camera flash bulbs going off on the NBA’s most photographed star. The Jordan 5 also introduced two key features that would become repeated design elements for various Air Jordans to follow: a toggle lace lock and clear rubber on the outsole. It all adds up to another masterpiece by Hatfield, and one of the most essential Air Jordans for any sneaker collector — whether you were around to remember Jordan wearing them on the court in 1990 or are just now becoming a fan of his storied sneaker line.
